5 Problems That Veneers Resolve
Everyone wants straight, white, even teeth that look gorgeous and work just as great. When you aren’t born with perfectly straight or shaped teeth your friendly dentist can help.
At Margaret Culotta-Norton, DDS, PC, in Washington, DC, Dr. Culotta Norton and Dr. Peter Grinc provide beautiful veneers to help give you the smile you completely deserve, no matter what’s been going on with your grin.
Veneers basics
Unlike many other forms of cosmetic dentistry, veneers are a relatively easy, fast, and minimally invasive way to restore your teeth so they look fantastic. As long as your teeth and gums are healthy, veneers can be used to solve a lot of minor cosmetic issues.
Veneers are wafer-thin porcelain “shells” that are fitted over the front faces of your visible teeth, giving you a bright, even, and absolutely beautiful smile. This usually takes a few visits in our office.
First, you have your consultation. We check out your teeth and gums, make sure everything is healthy, and discuss what you want from your smile. Then, once the decision has been made to move forward with veneers, we remove a very thin layer of enamel from your front teeth.
We take a mold, and your veneers will be fabricated in a dental laboratory according to our measurements and the discussion we had with you about your desires for your smile. The advantage of porcelain is that the color can be chosen to fit your aesthetic desires and the shine is almost identical to real enamel. Porcelain also does not stain.
At your next visit, the veneers are bonded permanently in place, and they can last up to 10 years or more with proper at-home oral hygiene and regular dental visits. Just remember to brush and floss daily as you should anyway and don’t skip appointments for cleanings.
5 problems veneers resolve
You may have had an accident, fallen prey to bad habits, suffered decay or discoloration, or even suffered a trauma to the face. Don’t worry: Veneers can fix your smile!
1. Stubborn stains
Stained or yellowed teeth that are resistant to tooth whitening can be covered over with pearly white facsimiles that give you a ton of self-confidence.
2. Crooked teeth
A tooth that came in a little out of line can be forced back into place with braces — or you could just use veneers to even out your smile.
3. An odd gumline
Have a gummy smile? Veneers can make your teeth look uniform and just the right height, by extending the facing up to cover some of the excess gum tissue so the teeth make your smile pleasant to look at.
4. Gapped teeth
Did spaces you used to whistle through as a kid never quite close up? Don’t worry; veneers will present an even straight smile to the entire world.
5. Chips or cracks
That chipped front tooth you got when you went over the handlebars of your bike at age 12? Fixed. Hairline crack due to a headbutt when pillow fighting at age 14? Taken care of. Veneers make your smile look like nothing untoward ever happened.
